August 4, 1861, William Wallace Deaderick, on his 19th birthday,
enlisted in the Confederate Army, Thirty-seventh Tennessee Infantry
and was made sergeant. He advanced to lieutenant and was severly
wounded in the left arm at the battle of Murfreesboro. He was also in
the engagements at Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, and
Chickamauga.
