David Franklin Deaderick enlisted in the Cofederate Army as a private and was a prisoner of war in Knoxville. He achieved the rank oflieutenant in Company F, Thirty-fourth Virginia Cavalry. He was
wounded at Limestone Gap, taken prisoner three times, and released once in exchange.
